Sarah King is a textile designer, consultant and maker with 25 years experience. She trained at Goldsmiths College in Fine Art Textiles and Embroidery, then Textile Design at Manchester School of Art.
The beautiful textiles produced in her London studio exhibit Sarah’s versatility and expertise as a colourist, designer and craftsman. Her main loves are dyeing, applique, machine and hand embroidery.
Interior designers and private clients commission her to create couture textiles for residential and hotel schemes worldwide. The brief, style, scale and end-use vary enormously – curtain borders, upholstery fabric, a bedspread or a one-off cushion.
Sarah collaborates with costume designers creating bespoke textiles for film and stage.
She designs furnishing fabrics with the collective First Eleven Studio.
Consultancy projects include working with commercial manufacturers designing and developing furnishing fabric and accessories, collaborating on specialist projects with innovators from other fields, teaching and tutoring students and fellow textile enthusiasts.
In 2008 Royal Society of Arts named Sarah a Royal Designer for Industry.
